Spatial Informatics Engineering

Overview

The institute of Spatial Informatics Engineering (ISIE) concerns with urban spatial information acquisition, intelligent processing, effective management to promote the optimal allocation of urban resources and rational use of space and time by adopting Geographical Information Systems, Global Positioning Systems, Remote Sensing methods for data collection integrated with computer and network technology. The main research fields of ISIE are construction of spatial temporal big data, public safety and emergency response, land information management, spatial information, and digital city construction platform.

(1) Teaching and research team

ISIE has three research centers which are research center of spatial temporal big data, research center of public safety and emergency response GIS and research center of land information management.  And ISIE has 5 professors, 6 associate professors, 3 lecturers.

(2) Teaching

The Teaching skill of ISIE is of the top level in the SGG. Hu Chunchun, Zeng Wenxian and Wu Yun have won several times first, second and third prize of the national and Wuhan University’s teaching competitions. “Error theory and Foundation of Surveying Adjustment” is a national-quality course. Prof. Qiu Wei Ning is a member of Wuhan University Teaching Steering Group. ISIE is responsible for more than 10 courses in the teaching task: Error Theory and Foundation of Surveying Adjustment, Object-Oriented Programming, Spatial Information Sharing and Service, Computer Graphics, Spatial Databases, Advanced Surveying Adjustment, Data Structure and Database, Spatial Analysis and Auxiliary Decision-Making, Principles of Geographic Information System, Real Estates Cadastre, English for Geomatics Engineering, Sustainable Urban Development, Urban Spatial Information, Emergency Response and Management of Urban Disaster, and etc.

(3) Scientific Research

ISIE has strong scientific research ability. Each teacher in ISIE can independently undertake research projects related to spatial information services. Main research projects in recent years mainly include:
